Description

Envelope mounted on card divider item 33 with typed caption, 'Class Z' containing photographic images of the following locomotives of North Eastern Railway Raven-designed Atlantic 4-4-2 Classes Z and Z1 [later designated C7, C7/1, C7/2 and C9 by the London and North Eastern Railway]:

1) Colour postcard with printed caption on front, 'North Eastern [Railway] Express Engine', Class Z1 locomotive No 733 [image c.1912], 8cm x 13cm, see also items 24 and 36/2.

2) Colour postcard published by Locomotive Publishing Company with printed caption on reverse, 'North Eastern Railway No 717 [Class Z] 4-4-2 Express Locomotive' [reproduction of an oil painting by F Moore] [image c.1912], 9cm x 14cm, same image as item 26, see also item 28.

3) Monochrome postcard published by C L Turner, London and North Eastern Railway Class C7 locomotive No 2210 [leaving Central Station, Newcastle, Northumberland with a Newcastle to York passenger train] [image c.1930-1932], 9cm x 14cm, same image as item 36/6.

4) Monochrome postcard published by F Moore's Railway Photographs No 8941, London and North Eastern Railway locomotive No 732 as rebuilt and re-designated Class C7/2 [image c. 1933-1934], 9cm x 14cm.

5) Monochrome postcard published by Real Photographs No 1289 with typed caption on reverse, 'London and North Eastern Railway 4-4-2 Passenger No 2171 [re-designated] Class C9 ex-North Eastern Railway, observe [booster and] special articulated bogie connecting engine and tender' [making its wheel arrangement technically 4-4-4-4], [image c. 1932-1936], 9cm x 14cm.

6) Monochrome postcard published by Locomotive Publishing Company No 4070, Class Z locomotive No 709, [image 1911], 9cm x 14cm, same image as item 22, see also item 27.
