Description

Envelope mounted on reverse of card divider item 18 with typed caption, 'Classes V and V1 [the latter officially designated V/09]' containing photographic images of the following locomotives from these North Eastern Railway [W Worsdell and Raven] 4-4-2 Atlantic Classes [later designated Class C by the London and North Eastern Railway]:

1) Colour postcard published by Locomotive Publishing Company, reproduction of an oil painting by F Moore with printed caption on reverse, 'North Eastern Railway Dining Car Express Leaving Edinburgh [Waverley Station with Calton Jail in background]', [W Worsdell Class V] locomotive No 1794 with a train of clerestory roofed [East Coast Joint Stock] coaches [image c.1905], 9cm x 14cm.

2) Cutting [from 'The Railway Magazine'] undated, monochrome photographic image with printed caption underneath, 'East Coast Route, Edinburgh-[London] King's Cross Express Near Drem Junction [East Lothian] North British Railway, 4-4-2 North Eastern Railway Engine No 1794 [W Worsdell] Class V Superheated', photograph by P Maxwell-Wood [image c.1916-1922].
