1851-1852
The maps in this series are the one-inch maps of Ireland prepared by the Ordnance Survey Office, Dublin, following a Treasury decision, in the face of weighty opposition, in favour of a one-inch survey of Ireland, 1851-1852. The Bonne projection was accepted, with an origin near Athlone at 8° W and 53½° N. All sheets are initialled MS, hence they were probably a record set.
The material in this series is non record material originally held in the Library.

These maps were transferred to the Public Record Office sometime prior to 1937, where they were placed in the library at Chancery Lane, remaining largely inaccessible. On consolidation of the Chancery Lane and Kew Library holdings at Kew, in 1996, they were listed and placed on open access shelves in the Map and Large Document Reading Room.
