In 1982, the Housing; Environment and Property Services Division was situated under the Local Government Group and there under the Public Services (sector). The division name was changed in 1984, to the Housing and Territorial Government (division) and in 1985, the sector name changed to Financial Management; Public Services (sector). In 1987, the division name was altered to the Housing and Environment (division). In 1989, the Management Policy and Running Costs Group (sector) inherited the Housing and Environment (division) previously held by the Financial Management; Public Services (sector). By 1990, the Management Policy and Running Costs Group (sector) had been replaced by the Government Accounting Service Management Unit (sector); however, by 1992, the sector name was reverted back to the Public Services (sector).
