Custodial history
The records were originally created and stored by the Welsh Office. The National Assembly for Wales (Executive) took over custody from 1998 and the records stored in Neptune Point, Cardiff. The Welsh Assembly Government took over custody in 2007 and the records were stored with a third party contractor. In 2011 the Welsh Government took over custody of the records.

Selection and destruction information
Records Collection Policy, s.3.1.1 records which detail changes in the strategic functions and obligations of the UK and English and Welsh governments. ODP7, s 5.11. Records relating to signicant events involving health planning have been selected for preservation.
Administrative / biographical background

The Health Planning and Building Division was a component of the Health and Social Work Department. It was responsible for the general oversight health services in the then nine district health authorities in Wales. This included regional services, centrally funded initiatives, strategic planning, the health building programme, building standards, fire precautions, estate management and NHS land matters.
