Folios 298-299. Audit Report Form VI from Thomas Simkiss, District Auditor for Staffordshire and Worcestershire, for the half year ended Michaelmas 1863 [21 September 1863] on the accounts of the Bromsgrove Poor Law Union in which he states that James Lea, Assistant Overseer and Collector for Bromsgrove, was seriously injured in an accident on the London and North Western Railway in the early part of the previous year and, with the Poor Law Board's sanction, his father acted as his temporary deputy. Lea was now permanently disabled, incapable of using his lower limbs, and had received £2000 compensation from the Railway Company. His father continued to act as his son's deputy.
