Folio 206. Draft letter from the Poor Law Board, to Reverend H A Woodgate, Rector of Belbroughton in the Bromsgrove Poor Law Union acknowledging receipt of his letter of 6 August 1863 regarding deductions claimed in the assessment of Tithe Commutation Rent charge to the Poor Law Rate. The Board state that they are unable to express an opinion in respect of a particular case but forward a copy of their circular of 9 May 1850 explaining their general views on these assessments. They also call attention to the Court of Queen's Bench decision in the cases of Williams v Llangeinwen and Wheeler v Burmington (31 L J R n s M C 54 and 57) and Queen v Scriven with Tentergate (5 Law Times 3 52) with regard to deductions for a curate's salary. They also refer to the cases of Reg v Groves (29 L J R n s M C 179) and Lawrence v Tolleshunt Knight (31 L J R n s M C 148) with respect to deductions on Tithe Rent Charge for district ministers and others which modify the views of the circular.
