This series contains correspondence and papers (including a few plans) and registered files relating to government offices, courts of law and other public buildings in England and Wales. They cover the whole field of the acquisition and disposal of sites and properties; and the design, erection, and maintenance of the various buildings, mainly major developments in London, such as the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand, the Public Record Office in Chancery Lane, numerous buildings in Whitehall, headquarters accommodation in London for various ministries, and the General Post Office at St Martin's Le Grand.
A few files relate to buildings outside London.
Most of the files were registered, mainly in the AJ, HEA and LRE series, although several other and some later file series are also represented, including AE, AH, AK, AP, CH, DCA and ESS. Some earlier papers are in unregistered folders. Some files date from after the creation of the Department of the Environment and the Property Services Agency.
