Folio 606. Letter from Henry Saunders, Clerk to the Guardians of the Kidderminster Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board. A new chapel having been built at the workhouse, the guardians wish to alter the old, disused chapel and put it to other uses, and also to carry out other alterations to the workhouse. The cost would be under £200. Plans and specifications are enclosed [not included].
Annotated: this proposal is to adapt the old chapel into a young men's day room, 43 ft by 16ft, and an old men's ward, 40ft by 16ft, building an infirm men's bedroom over the latter. New windows are proposed in the present infirm men's dayroom, and the present washroom is to be enlarged in width and height. The new rooms for men being 40 feet in length suggest a second fireplace at the opposite end of each room. Sanctioned by C W Savage [Architect, Poor Law Board], W G Lumley [Assistant Secretary, Poor Law Board] and J T Graves [Poor Law Inspector].
Paper Number: 5481/1866.
Poor Law Union Number: 530.
Counties: Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
