Folios 600-601. Letter from Henry Saunders, Clerk to the Guardians of the Kidderminster Poor Law Union, to the Poor Law Board, in answer to the enquiry about the discrepancy between the numbers given for male occupiers and for registered voters in Bewdley borough. Saunders's total of 546 male occupiers is based on the number of occupiers of tenements with a rental of £10, whether or not buildings were on the land. If only those occupying buildings with or without land had been counted, the number would have been much smaller.
There are only 355 voters on the electoral register because there has not been an election in Bewdley for some years, and now probably many more men are eligible to vote.
The return was made out from the current rate book. For property over £6 in rateable value but under £7, the weekly rent would be 3s 4d to 3s 6d.
Annotated: deposit with other explanation.
Paper Number: 4005/1866.
Poor Law Union Number: 530.
Counties: Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Shropshire.
