Extract from 'The Railway Magazine', February 1901, pages 97- 109. 'Illustrated Interviews'. 'No 38- Mr Stephen Butler Cottrell, Engineer and General Manager, Liverpool Overhead Railway'. The reasons for the line being built are outlined and details of its construction are given, together with notes regarding the four bridges and the permanent way.
Dimensions of the trains are given with details about the collection of current, and its supply from the line's own generating station. The automatic signalling is also explained. There are also brief passenger statistics.
There is a line map, eight photographic illustrations and a cross-sectional drawing of the south end tunnel to Dingle, showing how it avoids conflict with the tunnels of the Cheshire Lines. At the end is a career history of Mr Cottrell.
