From 1998 Ministry of Defence
The Inspectorate of Armaments was one of the four re-organised inspectorates in the Inspection Division of the Ministry of Supply in 1958/1959 and this division continued with the transformation of the Ministry of Supply into the Ministry of Aviation in 1959. In 1962 the Inspectorate was transferred to the War Office together with the Inspectorate of Fighting Vehicles and Mechanical Equipment. In 1964 the Inspectorate became part of the unified Ministry of Defence. Following the Raby report of 1969, it was renamed the Quality Assurance Directorate (Weapons) QAD(W) in 1970.
