This series consists of records documenting the development of the first of Tate’s regional galleries, including negotiations with central and local government and other agencies, together with plans, drawings and the different sites/proposals considered.
This is anticipated to be a popular series as the subject of urban regeneration through the re-use of buildings as art galleries/museums is of interest to researchers

The idea for creating a ?Tate in the North? was first discussed in 1980. In 1988 the converted Albert Dock warehouse was opened and Tate Liverpool became the first of Tate?s regional museums.
