William Maxwell BICKERTON: British. Arrested in Tokyo in 1934 on grounds of Communist affiliation, BICKERTON jumped bail and came to London where he became a link with the Comintern's Japanese interests. During the war he was interned in Hong Kong and in 1947 was working in China, latterly at Peking University
