James Oswald Noel VICKERS, aliases John, Jon: British. The trade union leader 'Jon' VICKERS first came to the Security Service's notice through Communist sympathies in 1934 as a schoolboy at Stowe and then at Cambridge; sympathies confirmed in 1944 by censored correspondence with his wife Freddie LAMBERT while a prisoner of war. He joined the party in 1945 at the latest but left in 1956. In 1960 he was appointed Deputy General Secretary of the Civil Service Union
