Howard Kingsbury SMITH: American. A student at Oxford in the 1930s, SMITH became a journalist and in the 1950s was the European representative of the Columbia Broadcasting System based in London. Suggestions that SMITH may have had links to Soviet Intelligence in the 1940s were never substantiated and were later discounted
