Franz John Von RINTELEN, alias Emil GASCHE: German. Involved during the First World War in German espionage and sabotage in the USA, for which he received a prison sentence, Von RINTELEN renounced his German nationality when the Nazi Party gained ascendancy in Germany. In 1933 and 1935 he published his autobiographical works 'The Dark Invader' and 'Return of the Dark Invader'. In World War II he persistently volunteered to assist the British war effort in various ways but his background from World War I prevented this and he was interned until the end of 1944. After release he made contact with, and appeared to be in sympathy with, right-wing circles
