Folio(s) 154-155. Letter headed 'secret' from [Major General John William Egerton], Colchester [Essex], enclosing letters [not present] from Mr Chalk and the Adjutant General. Egerton had asked Chalk to arrange a meeting with Mr Young of Bocking, but this was not possible. As Chalk had previously complained about his letter being handed around, Egerton had asked the Adjutant General for permission to return the letters Chalk had written on the subject. By this means he hopes to encourage further information from Chalk.
Mr Thomas's solicitor had not written, but Egerton hopes that the petition to the Home Secretary has arrived and will have a favourable outcome.
