As most of the material was financial casework, not many files survived for second review.
Public Transport London Division was formed in 1987 with responsibility for public transport policy in London and sponsorship of London Regional Transport (LRT).
In 1990 the Division was divided into two one dealing with rail aspects and the other with sponsorship of LRT.
By 1994 PTL had become a Directorate still comprising the two divisions one dealing with LRT and one with railway related matters, the latter division dealing with major rail projects that were not exclusively British Railways undertakings.
In 1996 the Directorate disappeared and the divisions became part of the Urban and Local Transport Directorate.
In 1997 it became the London Transport Division and in 1999 the Division moved to the Government Office for London again becoming a Directorate with the customary two divisions split between sponsorship and rail projects; those files that were taken to the GO had an 'O' added to the prefix.
