Folio 480.
To: The Local Government Act Office.
From: Arthur J Hunt, Assistant Overseer, 6 Seymour Villas, Stapleton Road, Bristol [Gloucestershire].
Letter advising that a Vestry meeting will be held in the parish of St George next Monday. Hunt advises that it is expected that a proposal will be made at the meeting for the construction of an intercepting sewer, 'so as to take the whole sewerage of the parish to one point, and there for the sewage to discharge itself into the tidal River Avon, which ebbs and flows some distance in the parish'. He enquires whether there is any law which prohibits the making of sewers which discharge themselves into tidal rivers. Hunt explains that the River Avon, after leaving St George Parish, flows by and through part of Bristol, 'and the whole of the sewage of Bristol now flows into that river'.
