Folios 470-479.
To: The Home Secretary.
From: Robert Rawlinson, Superintending Inspector, The Local Government Act Office.
Report upon a petition from certain owners and ratepayers of the parish of St George [Gloucestershire], praying that the powers of Section 49 of the Sanitary Act 1866 may be enforced against the Vestry of St George for the removal of certain specified nuisances. Rawlinson reports that the allegations contained in the petition are true and that there are nuisances dangerous to the public health present within the parish. He explains that up until the present time, the Vestry of St George 'has declined to take any practical means to remove the nuisances which have existed, do exist, and are increasing'. Rawlinson recommends that notice is given to the Vestry of St George that if, after an interval of three months from the date of such notices, the Vestry refuses to act, then the powers of Section 49 of the Sanitary Act 1866 may be put in force.
