Folio 457.
To: The Local Government Act Office.
From: Josiah Pople, Chairman of the Sewer Authority, St George [Gloucestershire].
Letter acknowledging receipt of a letter dated 2 February 1869, with reference to Frogmarsh Drain in the parish of St George, advising that the Home Secretary had directed a local inquiry under Section 49 of the Sanitary Act 1866. Pople encloses a copy of a letter dated 3 November 1868 which he sent to the Clerk to the Bristol Local Board of Health [see folios 447-448], 'showing that the City of Bristol is materially, if not equally, concerned with this parish in applying a remedy to the drain in question'. He suggests that notice of the forthcoming inquiry ought also to be given to the Bristol Board of Health, or else such inspection 'would be regarded as being ex-parte, and would therefore be unsatisfactory'.
