To: The Local Government Act Office.
From: J D Wadham, Small Street, Bristol [Gloucestershire].
Letter acknowledging receipt of a letter dated 8 July 1868 and an accompanying copy of a letter dated 6 July 1868 from Josiah Pople, Chairman of the local authority of the Parish of St George. Wadham states in reply that he is 'not a little surprised to find the only step taken has been to forward to the local authority a copy of my letter and to me a copy of the reply of the local authority'. He further states that he has 'repeatedly pointed out that it is evident from the correspondence that there is no intention on the part of the local authority to do anything'. Wadham suggests that the only possible remedy 'is the construction of a proper covered drain connected with the Bristol drainage system, which the open ditch now actually crosses, and the Local Board of Health are perfectly ready to admit the sewage of this district into their system upon fair terms'. He again requests that an Inspector is sent to the parish - 'without which I am satisfied nothing will be done'.
