Description

Captured ship: Le Triton of Bordeaux (master Jean Brunett), formerly the English ship Nugent.

History: a French merchant ship (250 tons, 12 guns 50 men and 3 passengers), bound from Saint Domingue to Bordeaux, laden with sugar, coffee, indigo, hides and leather; taken on 15/26 April 1748 in latitude 44°N about 100 leagues west of Bordeaux by HMS Monmouth (Henry Harrison commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation as to the perishing nature of the cargo;
  • [CP 7]: allegation;
  • [CP 8-CP 9]: attestation as to papers, and abstracts and translations of the 79 ship's papers.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 79, bills of lading, invoices, rexceipts, orders, letter, ship's pass, muster roll, customs papers, charterparty.
