Description

Captured ship: Le Triomphant of Bordeaux (master Joseph Bonnavanture Le Brunant or Le Brunent).

History: a French merchant ship (80 tons, guns, 19 men), bound from Bordeaux to Martinique, laden with beef, flour, candles and hoops; taken on 7/18 April 1748 in latitude 44°N by the privateer Grand Alexander (Matthew Combe commanding), and brought into Bristol.

  • [CP 1-CP 4]: standing interrogatories, two examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 5]: allegation;
  • [CP 6-CP 7]: attestation as to papers, and abstracts and translations of the 17 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 17, muster roll, ship's pass, customs paper, invoices, indenture, accounts and bills of lading.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 6 June 1748]
