Description

Captured ship: Thomas of Poole (master John Parson; prize master Mathurin Vincent).

History: an English ship (3 men), bound from Bristol to London, laden with pitch, tar and Bristol water; taken on 18/29 July 1746 off Land's End by the French privateer Le François (Jean Baptiste Nicolas Sebire commanding), retaken on 23 July / 4 August off the South Foreland by the English privateer John and Susanna (John Clark commanding) and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6-CP 7]: attestation as to papers, and abstracts and translations of the 9 ship's papers.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 9, receipts in English; muster roll and copy letter of marque in French from Le François.

[Decision: restored, paying 1/3 salvage, 4 October 1747]
