Description

Captured ship: Le Télémaque or Thélemaque of Vannes (master Jean Marie Gillet).

History: a French merchant ship (80 tons, 6 guns, 16 men), bound from Saint Domingue to Nantes, laden with sugar and indigo; taken on 24 April / 5 May 1748 off Belle Isle by HMS Amazon (Michael Everitt commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7-CP 8]: attestation as to papers, and abstracts and translations of the 10 ship's papers.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 10, bill of lading, certificate, ship's pass, customs papers, charterparty and muster roll.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 6 June 1748]
