Description

Captured ship: Le Subtil or La Subtile of Boulogne (commander Antoine Dupont).

History: a French privateer (4 tons, 5 guns, 14 men and 2 boys), bound from Boulogne on a cruise; taken on 10/21 July 1746 at Hythe by the privateer Cholmondley (John Stringer commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: allegation;
  • [CP 7-CP 8]: attestation as to papers, and a translations of orders issued to the French ship's captain.

Ships Papers numbered SP 1, orders issued to Dupont.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 6 September 1746]
