Description

Captured ship: Le Renard of Cherbourg (master Antoine Pieter Figoly).

History: a French privateer (72 tons, 28 guns, 60 men), bound from Cherbourg on a cruise; taken on 23 November 1745 in Dunkirk Roads by HMS Weazel (Thomas Craven commanding), and brought into Deal.

  • [CP 1-CP 7]: two standing interrogatories, three examinations, two commissioners' affidavits;
  • [CP 8]: allegation;
  • [CP 9-CP 10]: attestation as to papers, and abstracts and translations of the 21 ship's papers.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 21 (SP 4 not here), letter of marque, muster roll, orders, ransom bill, receipts, certificates, letter of credit, bill of health.

[Decision: cargo condemned, 18 August 1747: case discontinued as to ship]
