Description

Captured ship: Le Rubis or Ruby of Bordeaux (master Claude Veron).

History: a French ship (170 tons, 8 guns, 27 men), bound from Saint Domingue to Bordeaux, laden with sugar and indigo; taken on 15/26 August 1744 by the privateers Salamander (Henry Strangeways commanding) and the Tyger (James Pipon commanding), and brought into London. Captured just before the Conquerante, into which ship her crew had made a temprorary ecape [see HCA 32/100/26].

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 8, bill of lading, ship's pass, invoice, customs papers, muster roll, list of merchant marks.
