Captured ship: La Providence of Bayonne (master Dominique de Leremboure but misdocketed as Gerard Hirigoyen).
History: a French ship (240 tons, 10 guns, 39 men), bound from Bayonne to Newfoundland laden with hogsheads, barrels, wine and vinegar; taken on 26 March / 6 April 1748 in latitude 49°N, 160 leagues west of Bayonne by HMS Assurance (Andrew Jelfe commanding), and brought into Plymouth.
