Description

Captured ship: De Paerl otherwise La Perle of Rotterdam (master Willem Jansen or Janse).

History: a Dutch ship (180 tons, 10 men), bound from Salou to Dunkirk, laden with brandy; taken on 4/15 July 1747 off Beachy Head by the privateer George (William Freebairn commanding), and brought into the Downs.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim;
  • [CP 7-CP 10]: attestation as to papers, and three sets of abstracts and translations of the 17 ship's papers in French, Dutch and Spanish (all but 4 of these were restored).

Ships Papers numbered SP 6, SP 12-SP 13, SP 16.
