Description

Captured ship: Providentia of Danzig (master Jacob Roehil otherwise Roell or Rohl).

History: a Danzig ship (150 tons, 13 men), bound from Nantes to Hamburg, laden with sugar and indigo; taken on 7/18 October 1747 near Ushant by the privateer Dreadnought (Richard Veal commanding), and brought into Plymouth.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim of the master, brought into court 31 October 1747;
  • [CP 7]: attestation on behalf of eleven people issed by the ruling authorities of Hamburg, brought into court 12 November 1747;
  • [CP 8-CP 19]: 12 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Hamburg, and brought into court in 12 March 1748;
  • [CP 20-CP 21]: attestation as to papers, and abstracts and translations of the 21 ship's papers [all restored].
