Description

Captured ship: De Printz Christian of Flensburg (master Jan Andries Simonsen).

History: a Danish ship (240 tons, 8 guns, 13 men), bound from Copenhagen to Dublin, laden with balks, pipestaves, clapwood, splitwood and gunpowder; taken on 11/22 July 1747 by the privateer Culloden (Abraham Boxell commanding), and brought into the Downs.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6-CP 8]: two attestations, one with a copy that details the physical abuse of a crewmember;
  • [CP 9]: attestation and claim;
  • [CP 10]: attestation relating to the ship's guns;
  • [CP 11]: allegation;
  • [CP 12-CP 13]: two attestations with annexed exhibits detailing charges resulting from the capture;
  • [CP 14-CP 16]: attestation as to papers, abstracts and translations of the 49 ship's papers (restored), and transcription of a ship's pass in Latin.
