Description

Captured ship: Le Postillon of Bordeaux (master Daniel Schreiber).

History: a French or Danzig ship (100 tons, 9 men), bound from Danzig to L'Orient, laden with timber and pipestaves; taken on 19/30 July 1744 near Ushant by the privateer Salamander (Henry Strangeways commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.

  • [CP 1-CP 6]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit, docket;
  • [CP 7]: attestation and claim;
  • [CP 8]: allegation;
  • [CP 9]: attestation as to the poor quality of the cargo;
  • [CP 10-CP 11]: two attestations as to papers, four translations of individual ship's papers (all original papers were restored).

[Decision: cargo condemned and ship restored, 8 September 1744]
