Captured ship: Portland (master John Russell).
History: an English ship (115 tons, 12 men), bound from Virginia to Weymouth, laden with tobacco; taken on 15/26 June 1746 by the French privateer Le Jeune Homme (Estienne Vileruq commanding), retaken on 20/1 July off Cape Pinas (Bay of Biscay) by HMS Dragon (Thomas Elworthy commanding), and brought into Falmouth.
