Description

Captured ship: St Nicolas or St Nicolaus of Flensburg (master Jens Jordt or Dordt).

History: a Danish merchant ship (44 lasts, 7 men), bound from Bordeaux to Flensburg, laden with wine, brandy, vinegar, turpentine, rosin, corks, indigo, coffee, sweetmeats, Hungary water, oil and almonds; taken on 31 March / 11 April 1748 between Dover and Dungeness by the privateer Rainbow (Joseph Childs commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim of the master, October 1747;
  • [CP 7-CP 14]: 8 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Flensburg, Sonderburg, Schleswig, Apenrade and Norburg between April and June 1748, and brought into court in June and July 1748;
  • [CP 15-CP 17]: attestation as to papers, translation, and abstract and translation of the 30 ship's papers [all of these papers were restored].
