Description

Captured ship: La Nuestra Señora de la Assompcion y San Petri (master Joachín de Esnal).

History: a Spanish ship (300 tons, 20 guns, 105 men and some passengers), bound from Havana to Cadiz, laden with wine, oil, brandy, cloth and capers; taken on 10/21 January 1741 20 leagues off the Canary Islands by HMS Hastings (Alexander Ogilvy, Lord Banff commanding), and brought into the Downs.

  • [CP 2]: attestation as to papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 2, being a copy of the register with a translation. The marbled paper cover of SP 1 is now at PRO 49/44.
