Description

Captured ship: De Neptunus (master Sander Heeren).

History: a Hamburg ship (226 tons, guns, 11 men, 2 boys), bound from Nantes to Hamburg, laden with sugar, coffee, wine, treacle, honey, red wood, tea, bees wax and handkerchiefs; taken on 16/27 July 1747 about 8 leagues SW of Ushant by the privateer Hardwick (James Samson commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP 7 -CP 28]: claims and 35 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Hamburg, Altona, Karlsbad, Bremen, Magdeburg, Leipzig, Vienna, Bern and brought into court between 31 August and 12 November 1747;
  • [CP 29-CP 30]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 54 ship's papers [all of which were restored].
