Description

Captured ship: Le Mars of Nantes (master Pierre Bourdas, later Louis Julien).

History: a French merchant ship (260 tons, 16 guns, 29 men), bound from St Louis, Saint Domingue, to Nantes, laden with sugar and indigo; taken on 11/22 June 1744 in latitude 47°20'N by HMS Hampton Court (Savage Mostyn commanding), HMS Chester (Francis Geary commanding) and HMS Grampus sloop (Richard Collins commanding), and brought into the River Thames.
