Description

Captured ship: Marie of Bilbao otherwise Mary of Bilboa (master Jean Dufau).

History: a French merchant ship (140 tons, 11 men) bound from Bilbao to Le Havre, laden with 400 bags of Spanish wool; taken on 22 November / 3 December 1741 off the Isle of Wight by the privateer Warren Galley (John Huddy commanding) and brought into Portsmouth.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1]: commissioners' affidavit, four examinations, standing interrogatories;
  • [CP 2-CP 3]: attestation and claim;
  • [CP 4]: allegation;
  • [CP 5-CP 9]: two attestations as to papers, abstracts and translations of 3 of the 19 ship's papers.

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 19.

[Decision: restored,11 February 1742; appealed. See appeal papers in HCA 42/39]
