Description

Captured ship: Maria Theresa (master Thim or Them Peterson).

History: a Danish merchant ship (80 lasts, 13 men), bound from Barcelona and Alforque to Rotterdam, laden with wine, brandy and fish; taken on 28 April / 9 May 1748 west of the Shingles [Dungeness] by the privateer Hunter (Wilson Smith commanding), and brought into the Downs.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim of the master, June 1748;
  • [CP 7]: attestation of Christopher and Peter L'’Anglois on behalf of James Rocquette and Peter Theodore, June 1748;
  • [CP 8-CP 9]: 2 sets of attestations, affidavits and translations taken and sealed by the ruling authorities of Rotterdam and The Hague, June 1748, and brought into court in June 1748;
  • [CP 10]: petition of Louis Roguin to become the new consul at Barcelona, June 1748;
  • [CP 11]: commission of appraisement and appraisement schedule, brought into court July 1748;
  • [CP 12-CP 14]: attestation as to papers, and two abstracts and translations of the 39 ship's papers [these papers were all restored, except for SP 3].

Ship's Paper numbered SP 3.

[Decision: part of cargo condemned 28 June 1748, the ship and the rest of the cargo restored, 8 December 1748]
