Description

Captured ship: La Mutine of Nantes (master François De Lorme or Delorme).

History: a French merchant ship with a letter of marque (150 tons, 6 guns, 25 men), bound from Nantes to Martinique, laden with beef, flour, wine, cloth, and oil; taken on 20/31 October 1747 in latitude 40° by HMS Centurion (Peter Denis commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation as to the perishable nature of the cargo;
  • [CP 7]: allegation on behalf of HMS Centurion, brought into court in December 1747;
  • [CP 8]: allegation on behalf of the privateer Pelham for joint capture, brought into court in March 1747;
  • [CP 9]: allegation on behalf of the privateer Augusta for joint capture, brought into court in March 1747;
  • [CP 10-CP 11]: second allegations on behalf of the Pelham and the Augusta, brought into court in January 1748
  • [CP 12-CP 13]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 21 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 21.
