Captured ship: Martin Galley of Bristol (master William Deale, French prize-master Julien Mouchesse).
History: an English ship (200 tons, guns, men), bound from Virginia to Bristol, laden with tobacco; taken by the French and retaken on 26 July / 7 August 1744 near Ushant by the privateer Southwell (John Wingfield commanding), and brought into Falmouth.
