Captured ship: Marie Marguerite of Nantes (master André Gauvain).
History: a French merchant ship (300 tons, 14 guns, 39 men), bound from Leogane, Saint Domingue to Nantes, laden with sugar, cotton, indigo, and tortoise shells; taken on 26 March / 6 April 1745 near Belle Isle by HMS Captain (Thomas Griffin commanding) in sight of six other naval ships: HMS Edinburgh (William Martin Vice-Admiral, and Thomas Coates commanding), HMS Lenox (Peter Lawrence commanding), HMS Hampton Court (Savage Mostyn commanding), HMS Monmouth (Henry Harrison commanding), HMS Prince Frederick (Henry Norris commanding), and HMSPrincess Louisa (William Boys commanding), and brought into Plymouth.
