Description

Captured ship: Martinus en Wiskien (master Jan Pytters or Pyters or Pieters).

History: a Dutch merchant ship (80 lasts, 5 men and a boy), bound from Bordeaux to Dunkirk, laden with wine, brandy, vinegar, prunes, almonds, cock feathers and ham; taken on 15/26 April 1747 between Dover and Calais by the privateer Endeavour (Robert Crouscall commanding), and brought into Dover.

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim;
  • [CP 7]: allegation;
  • [CP 8-CP 9]: attestation as to papers, and abstract and translation of the 30 ship's papers, and of some unnumbered ones, including several ship's journals 1743-1747 of no consequence, delivered to the captor by Symon Stoffels, mate.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 19, SP 23, SP 26, SP 29 [unusally, there is no note of the others having been restored].
