Captured ship: Louis Arnault (master Nicholas Helaine).
History: a French merchant ship (90 tons, 8 men who all abandoned the ship for fear of capture, except the captain), bound from Cherbourg to Lorient, laden with 672 barrels of pork for the French East India Company; taken on 9/20 May 1748 off Montville by the privateer Hawke (James Olliver commanding), and brought into Alderney.
