Description

Captured ship: Laurence (master Antoine Babinette).

History: a French ship (250 tons, 36 men), bound from Saint Domingue to Bordeaux, laden with sugar and indigo; taken on 12/23 August 1744 by HMS Hampton Court (Savage Mostyn commanding), and brought into Portsmouth.

  • [CP 1-CP 6]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit, wrapper;
  • [CP7-CP 8]: 2 allegations, brought into court between September and December 1744;
  • [CP 9]: abstracts and translations of the 2 ship's papers.

Ship's Papers numbered SP 1-SP 2:

  • SP 1-SP 2: muster roll, French pass.

[Decision: condemned as prize, 27 September 1744]
