Description

Captured ship: Jonge Pieter or Young Peter (master Pieter Watson).

History: a Dutch ship (150 tons, 9 men and a boy), bound from Morlaix to Cadiz laden with bale goods and provisions, taken on 6 / 17 February 1745 by the privateer Queen of Hungary of Bristol (John Engledue commanding) and taken into Milford Haven. The captors alleged that the ship was carrying contraband and had counterfeit papers.

  • [CP 4]: attestation and claim of the master, brought into court 24 April 1745;
  • [CP 5-CP 10] 5 attestations, release, brought into court 2 July 1745;
  • [CP 11-CP 13b]: 3 attestations by Pieter Watson, 2 accompanying exhibits, brought into court 2 July 1745;
  • [CP 14-CP 16]: 3 attestations relating to the counterfeiting of bills of lading by merchants in Bristol, brought into court after 1 July;
  • [CP 17-CP 19]: 3 attestations, brought into court 9 July;
  • [CP 20-CP 22]: attestation as to papers, abstracts and translations of the ship's papers in Dutch, abstracts and translations of the ship's papers in French (all restored).
