Description

Captured ship: Jonge Leonora (Young Leonora) (master Adrijaen de Langhe (Adryaen de Langhe) ).

History: a Dutch ship (123 tons, 7 men and a boy, previously the English Bridget and Mary master Richard Cottam, taken by the French about 2 years before), bound from Bordeaux to Dunkirk laden with wine, brandy, prunes and cork, taken on 11/22 March 1747 off Gravelines by the privateer Fortune (Gilbert Chain commanding) and taken into Dover.

Court Papers:

  • [CP 1-CP 5]: standing interrogatories, three examinations, commissioners' affidavit;
  • [CP 6]: attestation and claim of the master;
  • [CP7-CP 8]: allegation, attestation as to the perishing nature of the cargo;
  • [CP 9-CP 11]: attestation as to papers, abstracts and translations of the ship's papers in Dutch, abstracts and translations of the ship's papers in French (some of which were restored).

Ship’s Papers numbered SP 1-SP 23 (SP 18-21 not here):

  • SP 1- SP 17: 17 bills of lading issued at Bordeaux;
  • SP 22: French pass;
  • SP 23: cargo list.
